Garouste & Bonetti

Elizabeth Garouste was born in 1949 in Paris and Mattia Bonetti in 1952 in Lugano (Switzerland). They began working together in 1980 to create furniture and interior design pieces. They began by decorating the Palace that Fabrice Eamer asked them to design. Shortly afterwards, the Néotu Gallery published them. Their furniture, baroque and barbaric, is surprising, made of heterogeneous and unusual materials, such as rock, hammered bronze, raffia, leather, skin, logs and glass... They are at the instigation of the "barbarian" fashion. They use references such as the Middle Ages, Africa, Cocteau's poetry, Venetian baroque and neo-classicism for their creations. They were also published by the galleries "En attendant les Barbares", David Gill, Kréo, Lou Fagotin, Daum, Baguès. They ended their collaboration in 2002. Mattia Bonetti continues to create furniture, regularly exhibited in numerous exhibitions and galleries.
