Nicolas de Waël takes up the floral and animal themes so dear to Art Nouveau in two collections, "Nancy" and "Gallé", dedicated to the Nancy School and Emile Gallé, one of the most influential figures in the applied arts and pioneers of Art Nouveau.
The motto on the door of his Nancy studio read: "Ma racine est au fond des bois" ("My root is deep in the woods").
